Kolkata, March 15 (NationPress) Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a member of the Lok Sabha, has mandated the establishment of two distinct micro-level committees at the district tiers in West Bengal to pinpoint fraudulent voters in the region.
This directive was communicated during a virtual conference with party leaders at various levels.
The primary focus of this virtual meeting was to tackle the issue of identifying fraudulent voters in West Bengal.
One of the proposed micro-level committees will operate at the panchayat level, termed the Panchayat Level Electoral Supervisory Committee.
The second committee will function at the town level, known as the Town Level Electoral Supervisory Committee.
These committees are expected to be formed by next month, with operations commencing by April 16 and continuing until the Assembly elections next year.
Training for committee members will be conducted by the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), a vote-strategy organization founded by Prashant Kishor, which has worked with the Trinamool Congress since the 2021 West Bengal election.
These two new micro-level committees will complement the existing committee established and announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last month.
Abhishek Banerjee is listed second among the members of the state-level committee, which is chaired by the party's state president, Subrata Bakshi.
A party official familiar with the virtual meeting indicated that Banerjee instructed the members of the two tiers to convene monthly to discuss the progress in identifying fraudulent voters and report back to the state-level committee.
“During the meeting, Abhishek Banerjee remarked that the BJP had previously engaged in similar electoral fraud in Maharashtra by incorporating voters from other states into the electoral lists. He noted that the opposition parties in Maharashtra failed to detect this forgery in a timely manner, a feat that our Chief Minister has successfully accomplished. He cautioned that in West Bengal, the BJP aims to remove the names of 25 lakh current voters and replace them with an equal number of new voters,” the Trinamool Congress leader stated.
