New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) The Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-Delhi) announced on Tuesday a collaboration with Micron Technology, Inc. to enhance research in electronic materials and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven modeling.

This partnership, established through IIT Delhi's Corporate Relations office, is designed to bridge the gap between academic research and the demands of the industry, particularly in the rapidly evolving semiconductor sector.

The joint initiative will concentrate on creating innovative solutions leveraging cutting-edge technology and scientific insights to address significant obstacles in semiconductor manufacturing.

Researchers will delve into electronic materials and employ AI-driven neural models to forecast and avert fatigue and fractures in copper-based electronic components.

These initiatives are anticipated to enhance the reliability and performance of semiconductor devices.

Professor Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.

"At IIT Delhi, we are dedicated to promoting industry-academia collaborations that lead to impactful research and innovation," he stated.

Additionally, a government report last month indicated that approximately 20 percent of the global workforce in semiconductor design is located in India, with the country's chip demand—currently estimated at $45-50 billion—expected to more than double, reaching $100-110 billion by 2030.

S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), emphasized on March 28 the necessity of Nano Centres in fostering innovation and developing skilled talent to achieve the target of building a semiconductor-ready workforce of 85,000 professionals.
