New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has announced its plans to host the Delhi International Leather Expo (DILEX) 2025 in the capital city this month, as per an official statement released on Thursday.

Scheduled for February 20-21 at the Yashobhoomi convention centre, DILEX serves as a premier business-to-business (B2B) platform for manufacturers and exporters to present their latest offerings, innovations, and capabilities to international buyers looking for effective sourcing options.

In line with the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives, 'DILEX 2025' aims to boost exports, generate employment, and strengthen India’s position in the global marketplace, the statement added.

The government has enacted various reforms to stimulate trade and industry. The Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on wet blue leather has been slashed from 10 percent to zero, addressing a significant industry request, while the export duty on crust leather has been abolished.

A special package has also been rolled out to bolster manufacturing and exports, especially in the footwear sector, along with a Focus Product Scheme designed to enhance productivity, quality, and competitiveness, aiming for a turnover of Rs 4 lakh crore and exports of Rs 1.1 lakh crore, and creating 22 lakh jobs.

To further assist MSMEs, the investment and turnover classification limits have been raised, and credit guarantee coverage for micro and small enterprises has been increased to Rs 10 crore, unlocking an additional Rs 1.5 lakh crore in credit over the next five years.

Custom financial aid, including tailored credit cards for micro-enterprises and support for SC/ST women entrepreneurs, will further encourage inclusive growth.

An Export Promotion Mission is also set to be launched with specific sectoral and ministerial targets, while BharatTradeNet (BTN), a unified platform for trade documentation and financing, will be established to streamline international trade.

This budget announcement arrives at a crucial time for India’s leather and footwear industry, which is rapidly transforming into a global manufacturing and sourcing hub.

CLE has outlined a target of $47 billion turnover by 2030, with $13.7 billion earmarked for the export sector, as stated by Rajendra Kumar Jalan, Chairman of the Council for Leather Exports.

"The government’s proactive approach in addressing industry concerns—especially concerning duty reductions and financial aid for MSMEs—will be vital in elevating India’s leather sector to global recognition. CLE is dedicated to fostering sustainable growth and international competitiveness," he remarked.
