New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has officially introduced its Internet Governance Internship and Capacity Building Scheme, which seeks to enhance awareness and foster expertise in internet governance among the citizens of India.

Interns will receive a fixed stipend of Rs 20,000 per month, along with assistance to conduct essential outreach programs, as stated by the IT Ministry.

S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY and Chairman of NIXI, emphasized the necessity for individuals from various fields to engage in internet governance and to voice the genuine concerns of our society.

“Our aim is to motivate young individuals to learn, evolve, and apply their knowledge to create a positive influence in their organizations and communities, thereby nurturing a fair and inclusive internet,” Krishnan remarked.

This initiative is designed to cultivate the upcoming generation of tech policy leaders and specialists in Internet Governance.

“The current generation prioritizes experience over conventional stable employment. NIXI’s Internet Governance Internship presents an outstanding opportunity for youth interested in digital policy, offering global exposure,” he added.

The program is intended to provide participants with the expertise required to effectively engage in global internet governance discussions with organizations such as ICANN, Internet Society, ISOC, IEEE, and IETF, while collaborating closely with leading experts in the domain.

It will develop a pool of local talent capable of engaging deeply with evolving internet governance challenges and contributing to their solutions, according to MeitY.

The program features a bi-annual internship with two concurrent tracks: a six-month program and a three-month program.

Dr. Devesh Tyagi, CEO of NIXI, stated that this initiative is a vital step toward enabling Indian citizens to make significant contributions to the global internet governance landscape.

“By cultivating the next generation of internet governance experts, NIXI is facilitating the development of a more inclusive and accessible digital environment,” he concluded.
