Los Angeles, April 30 (NationPress) Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar has launched a scathing attack on the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
The director was honored with the Chaplin award in New York but expressed uncertainty about attending due to his disgust towards the White House chief, whom he labeled a "catastrophe", as reported by Female First UK.
He stated, "I doubted if it was appropriate to come to a country ruled by a narcissistic authority, who doesn't respect human rights. Trump and his friends, millionaires and oligarchs, cannot convince us that the reality we see with our own eyes is the opposite of what we are living, regardless of how much he twists the words, claiming they mean the opposite of what they do. Immigrants are not criminals. It was Russia that invaded Ukraine".
The filmmaker, known for works like 'Pain and Glory' and 'The Room Next Door', added, "Mr. Trump, I'm addressing you, and I hope you hear this. You will be remembered as the greatest mistake of our time. Your naivety is only matched by your violence. You will go down in history as one of the greatest damages to humanity… You will be remembered as a catastrophe".
According to Female First UK, singer-songwriter Dua Lipa presented the accolade, having developed a close friendship with Almodovar in recent years, and lauded his inclusive storytelling.
The 29-year-old singer said, "I appreciate how you balance emotion and humor in your narratives. I particularly love how you have normalized trans and gay roles or storylines, which today feels like a radical act, yet there’s an ease and warmth to all you do".
Meanwhile, Karla Sofia Gascon, the first trans actor nominated for an Academy Award for her role in 'Emilia Perez', recently shared her reluctance to return to the US due to the Trump administration's position on trans rights.
