Los Angeles, Feb 23 (NationPress) Hollywood actress-singer Jessica Simpson revealed that her journey of sobriety has made her more honest and has given her better control over her emotions. The 44-year-old singer and entrepreneur is gearing up for the launch of her new EP, ‘Nashville Canyon: Part 1’.

Having been alcohol-free since 2017, she attributes her sobriety to a renewed connection with her music, as reported by 'Female First UK'.

In her conversation with 'People' magazine, she shared, “The moment I started drinking excessively was when I began writing music in 2016, which led me to dark places and feelings of self-pity. I can’t explain why I felt that way, other than the alcohol deceived me into believing, ‘You’re braver with me by your side’.”

According to 'Female First UK', Jessica, who celebrated her seventh year of sobriety in November, stated, “Without alcohol, I am significantly more honest and I trust myself more.”

Instead of aiding her emotional processing, she noted that alcohol “silenced my emotions. Rather than confronting and working through them, I simply let them exist.”

In January, Jessica announced her split from Eric Johnson, 44, her husband for a decade. They have three children: Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.

She has also reconnected with her musical roots in Nashville, collaborating with songwriters and drawing inspiration from her personal journals and poetry.

Reflecting on her earlier career, Jessica mentioned her difficulty in asserting herself within the music industry.

She explained, “There are many forces pushing and pulling at you, investing money into your success, and you often find yourself saying ‘Yes’.”

She continued, “I was compliant. Being a preacher’s daughter, I struggled to advocate for myself. Although I had a powerful voice, my words often went unheard.”

Jessica described her forthcoming ‘Nashville Canyon’ release as a departure from the limitations of the pop star system that brought her fame.

She said, “With ‘Nashville Canyon’, I embraced the notion: ‘Forget who they told you to be. That was the fabricated version of me.

“‘Remember the girl who first sang ‘Amazing Grace’. Keep her in mind and recognize her as a woman. The freedom in my music is what you’ll discover in ‘Nashville Canyon’,” she added.
