Rajasthan Governor Calls for Urgent Research and Awareness on Birth Defects
On November 28, Governor Haribhau Bagde stressed the critical need for global research and awareness regarding birth defects and their treatment.

Jaipur, Nov 28 (NationPress) Governor Haribhau Bagde on Thursday stressed the critical need for global research and awareness concerning birth defects and their treatment.

Speaking at the sixth International Conference on Congenital Disorders, part of the "Rising Rajasthan" initiative by Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Science and Technology, he pointed out that about 6 percent of children globally are born with congenital disorders, as reported by the World Health Organization.

These disorders lead to hundreds of thousands of fatalities each year, highlighting the necessity for a nationwide movement to tackle this problem.

During the event, Governor Bagde declared that "the first happiness is a healthy body" and encouraged individuals to uphold their health through practices such as yoga, stressing that good health is essential for enjoying all facets of life.

Reflecting on the rapid advancement in Rajasthan, the Governor urged the state to take the lead in recognizing and treating emerging diseases. He praised efforts to eradicate polio and other diseases, while also advocating for comparable campaigns against tuberculosis (TB) and cancer. He suggested the systematic registration of cancer patients to enable early diagnosis and effective treatment.

Furthermore, the Governor highlighted the importance of initiatives aimed at promoting de-addiction and addressing health issues associated with contemporary dietary habits, advocating for a comprehensive approach to these challenges.

The conference showcased significant contributions from experts. Dr. Dharmendra Kumar provided insights into genetic diseases, gene therapy, and other medical advancements.

Dr. M.L. Swarnkar, the university's founder, called on the Government of India to establish a "Centre of Excellence" at the university for its work on treating rare childhood diseases.

Dr. Ashok Gupta, the seminar convener, delivered an extensive analysis of the medical aspects related to congenital disorders.
