Bamiyan, Jan 29 (NationPress) The authorities from the counter-narcotics department have incinerated 10.5 tonnes of illicit substances in the heart of Afghanistan's Bamiyan province, as reported by the provincial police office on Wednesday.

This contraband, which consisted of opium poppy, hashish, and materials used in heroin production, was publicly destroyed on Tuesday, according to the statement.

The police in Bamiyan have prohibited the cultivation of poppy, as well as the processing and trafficking of drugs in the region, according to Xinhua news agency.

On January 14, prior to this event, law enforcement seized 43 kg of illicit drugs in Khost province, detaining an individual for drug trafficking, reported provincial police spokesperson Tahir Ehrar.

This haul included 43 kg of hashish and a piece of an AK-47, found outside the provincial capital, Khost city. The spokesperson confirmed the arrest of one drug smuggler.

Authorities emphasized their strict stance against anyone producing or trafficking hashish, poppy, or heroin production materials within the province, Ehrar stated.

The counter-narcotics police also reported the seizure of 64 kg of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine, and the arrest of 17 suspected drug traffickers across two provinces earlier this month, as revealed by the Ministry of Interior.

This contraband comprised 43 kg of methamphetamine and 21 kg of hashish, obtained during separate routine operations conducted in the outskirts of Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces.

The statement noted that 10 individuals were apprehended on drug trafficking and purchasing charges in Nangarhar, while seven others were caught for drug smuggling in Kunduz.

On December 30, Afghanistan's counter-narcotics police had also arrested 12 individuals on allegations of drug smuggling across seven of the country's 34 provinces.

The arrested individuals were reportedly involved in the sale, purchase, and smuggling of contraband in the outskirts of Laghman, Bamyan, Kapisa, Parwan, Kunduz, Herat, and Farah provinces.

A substantial amount of illicit drugs, including opium, hashish, and stimulant tablets, was confiscated from the detainees, whose cases have been forwarded to the judiciary for further action.

The Afghan caretaker government, which has outlawed poppy cultivation, drug processing, and trafficking, remains committed to eradicating the drug problem until Afghanistan is free from narcotics.
