Washington, Feb 12 (NationPress) The US confirmed on Tuesday that Vice President J.D. Vance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions regarding the assistance from the United States to help India diversify its energy sources through investments in American nuclear energy technology.

The Vice President, along with his family, which includes Indian-born Second Lady Usha Vance and two of their three children, took photos with the Prime Minister, who brought gifts and birthday wishes for the couple's second son Vivek.

This meeting occurred during an AI summit in Paris.

“Had a wonderful meeting with US @VP @JDVance and his family,” the Prime Minister posted on X. “We had a great conversation on various subjects. Delighted to join them in celebrating the joyous birthday of their son, Vivek!”

Vice President Vance provided a more detailed summary of the meeting.

“The two leaders, together with Second Lady Usha Vance, enjoyed coffee while discussing mutual interests, particularly how the United States can support India in diversifying its energy through investments in clean, reliable US nuclear technology.”

Recently, India announced plans within its annual Budget to modify the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act as part of a broader strategy to increase its nuclear energy capacity to 100 GW by 2047.

The liability law has historically been viewed as a barrier for foreign nuclear power producers looking to invest in India's sector.

The Vice President's Office added: “Prime Minister Modi kindly presented gifts to the Vance children and wished Vice President Vance's son, Vivek, a happy birthday.”

The Prime Minister will travel to Washington D.C. following his Paris visit, arriving on Wednesday evening to hold his initial in-person discussions with President Donald Trump during the latter's second term.

The two leaders maintain a strong rapport and Prime Minister Modi will be among the first foreign dignitaries welcomed by President Donald Trump within his first three weeks of administration.

Trade and energy are expected to be pivotal topics in their discussions.

A joint statement will provide further details regarding their conversations.
