Moscow, April 30 (NationPress) Russia has claimed that Ukraine aims to disrupt the ceasefire declared by President Vladimir Putin to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On Monday, President Putin announced a 72-hour ceasefire during the ongoing 'Special Military Operation' in Ukraine, coinciding with the upcoming Victory Day celebrations next month.
According to Rodion Miroshnik, the special envoy from the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the actions of the Kiev regime, Ukraine is attempting to escalate tensions and derail dialogue.
Miroshnik noted that over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian attacks have resulted in 40 civilian injuries and at least two fatalities in Russia's frontline regions.
"These are not mere peaceful statements that Zelensky is making to appease the Americans. These actions represent real criminal acts, carried out silently, reflecting a bloodthirsty desire to disrupt dialogue and incite further tensions," he expressed on his Telegram channel.
He further accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's administration of deliberately attacking civilians in Russia's frontline areas.
"The deployment of high-precision weaponry underscores this reality. This is nothing less than a desperate act from a bloodthirsty regime in response to Russia's peace-oriented proposal to halt hostilities during the Victory Day celebrations," the diplomat emphasized.
In the announcement of the ceasefire, the Kremlin stated, "By the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, for humanitarian reasons, during the days of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, from midnight on May 7-8 until midnight on May 10-11, the Russian side declares a ceasefire. All military actions are suspended for this period."
"Russia expects the Ukrainian side to adhere to this example. Should there be any ceasefire violations by Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces will respond accordingly. The Russian side reaffirms its readiness for peace talks without preconditions, aimed at addressing the core issues of the Ukrainian crisis and fostering constructive engagement with international partners," it added.
The commemorations on Red Square in Moscow will celebrate the 80th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War.
