Sanaa, March 24 (NationPress) The US military positioned in the Red Sea has executed new airstrikes in Yemen's northern region of Saada, according to media sources.

The airstrikes targeted zones surrounding the central city of Saada, a significant base for the Houthis, as reported by the Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV on Sunday evening, without offering additional details.

These strikes followed shortly after the Houthis announced they had initiated new assaults on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea and the Ben Gurion airport in central Israel, with the latter attack reportedly intercepted by the Israeli military, as noted by Xinhua news agency.

Earlier on Sunday, the US military carried out multiple airstrikes on Houthi-dominated territories, including the airport in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, according to Houthi television. There have been no reports of casualties.

The exchanges of fire are part of an ongoing air campaign initiated by US forces in mid-March against Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen.

The Houthi faction, which has been in control of much of northern Yemen following a civil war that began in 2014, has pledged to persist in targeting Israeli sites in support of Palestinians in Gaza and to retaliate against what it terms as “American aggression”.

Saada province is recognized as the primary stronghold of the Houthi group. The recent airstrikes represent the seventh consecutive day of US operations targeting Houthi-controlled areas in northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa.

Previously, on Friday, US forces executed six airstrikes on Al-Fazah, a coastal region in the At-Tuhayta district, south of the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, as reported by al-Masirah TV. No casualties have been documented.

The Houthis have maintained control over much of northern Yemen, including Sanaa, since the onset of the civil war in 2014.

Tensions between the Houthis and the US military heightened as the US commenced new airstrikes on Yemen on March 15 after the Houthi group threatened to renew attacks on Israeli targets until humanitarian assistance is permitted into Gaza.
