Jaipur, March 16 (NationPress) Arvind Singh Mewar, an esteemed figure of the former royal lineage of Mewar, passed away at the age of 80 on Sunday morning following a long illness.
He lived at Shambhu Niwas within the City Palace, where he was receiving medical care.
A direct descendant of the renowned Maharana Pratap, he was the offspring of Bhagwat Singh Mewar and Sushila Kumari Mewar.
His elder sibling, Mahendra Singh Mewar, died on November 10, 2024.
The Mewar royal household was involved in a legal dispute regarding their ancestral estates.
From 1963 to 1983, the former Maharana Bhagwat Singh leased out numerous royal properties, inciting anger in his elder son, Mahendra Singh Mewar, who subsequently pursued legal action for a fair division of the assets, contesting the age-old principle of Primogeniture.
Post-independence, Primogeniture was established to ensure that the eldest son would inherit the royal legacy and its properties.
Nonetheless, Bhagwat Singh opposed Mahendra Singh's legal challenge, asserting that the royal assets were not to be divided.
On May 15, 1984, Bhagwat Singh designated his younger son, Arvind Singh Mewar, as the administrator of the family's assets in his last will.
Arvind Singh Mewar was instrumental in establishing Udaipur as a renowned destination for weddings.
His son, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, remarked, 'At that time, many regarded it as a mere joke. Yet today, not just Rajasthan, but the whole nation has adopted the trend of destination weddings.'
The final rites for Arvind Singh Mewar will take place on Monday. His body will be available for public homage at the City Palace starting at 7 a.m., with the funeral procession commencing at 11 a.m. The procession will move from Shambhu Niwas, through Badi Pol, Jagdish Chowk, Ghantaghar, Bada Bazaar, and Delhi Gate before reaching Mahasatiya for the final ceremonies.
