New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Tuesday, providing insights into his recent trips to Bhutan, South Korea, and Japan.

"I had the privilege of meeting our esteemed Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Dr S Jaishankar Ji. During our dialogue, I briefed him on my recent travels to Bhutan, South Korea, and Japan, where I observed significant admiration for the India growth story firsthand," Sarma shared on X after their meeting.

The Chief Minister also invited the EAM to the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati. This event aims to be the largest initiative for investment promotion and facilitation by the Assam government, showcasing the state's geostrategic advantages and its potential as a significant investment hub.

"At Advantage Assam 2, we will have the opportunity to hear the Hon'ble Minister discuss the critical role of Assam in India's Act East Policy," Sarma confirmed regarding Jaishankar's participation in this landmark event.

Assam plays a crucial role in India's 'Act East' policy and aligns with PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Purvodaya', positioning the northeast region as a gateway to India's advancements.

"It was a pleasure meeting CM Assam Himanta Biswa ji this morning. We discussed development initiatives in Assam and its importance to the success of our Act East and BIMSTEC policies," stated EAM Jaishankar following his meeting with the Assam CM.

The Assam Chief Minister expressed concerns regarding reports suggesting that certain factions within the Bangladeshi establishment are attempting to revive militancy in Assam with support from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

"The situation in Bangladesh is precarious. We have learned that the ISI, in collaboration with some factions of the Bangladeshi establishment, is attempting to rekindle militancy in Assam. However, such intentions lack local support, as the people desire peace," he stated at a recent gathering in Kokrajhar to mark five years since the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord.

On Monday, Sarma met with PM Modi in Parliament to discuss investment initiatives within the state.

The Prime Minister is set to be the Chief Guest at the Advantage Assam 2.0 on February 25 and will also witness the grand Jhumur dance performance at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.

Assam is striving to establish itself as a global hub for semiconductors, with plans to develop an electronic city in Jagiroad to propel this ambitious vision forward. Sarma disclosed this after his recent visit to Japan.

"To advance our semiconductor vision, we engaged with top representatives from semiconductor firms such as Micron Memory, Ueno Seiki, Tanaka, Tokyo Electron, Renesas Electronics, and Enomoto Co in Japan," he noted upon returning to Guwahati.
