Kolkata, April 24 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court, under the directive of its Chief Justice, T.S. Sivagnanam, observed a two-minute silence at noon on Thursday to honor the victims of a horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The registrar general of the High Court had circulated a notice concerning the Chief Justice's directive.

This moment of silence was also observed at the circuit benches in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, and Port Blair in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as per the earlier notice.

Additionally, all district and sub-divisional courts across West Bengal, along with the Judicial Academy, participated in this solemn tribute.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, praised the initiative.

“I commend the Hon'ble High Court at Calcutta for its commendable decision to observe a two-minute silence today at 12 noon, paying respects to the brave individuals who tragically lost their lives in the vile terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. This moment serves as a tribute for our fellow citizens. Jai Hind,” stated the LoP in a morning announcement.

In comments to the press, Adhikari expressed his willingness to take full responsibility for raising Hridan, the three-year-old son of Bitan Adhikari, one of the three tourists from West Bengal who fell victim to the Pahalgam massacre.

Bitan Adhikari, a resident of the Patuli area in the southern outskirts of Kolkata, had been living with his wife, Sohini, and son, Hridan, in Florida, USA, for work. His wife is also employed in Florida.

The family returned to their Patuli home on April 8 and traveled to Kashmir on April 16 for a vacation. They were scheduled to return to Kolkata the following week.

Bitan was among the 26 Hindu men targeted for their religion and murdered in cold blood in front of his wife and young son on Tuesday in Pahalgam. His wife and son made their way back to Kolkata on Wednesday evening.
