With an alarming number of individuals fighting cancer globally, this day also focuses on minimizing the fatalities associated with the disease.
At Shivpuri Medical College in Madhya Pradesh, cancer patients are reaping the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which is proving to be invaluable for those confronting grave illnesses like cancer.
The initiative provides complimentary treatment, alleviating the financial strain on patients and guaranteeing their access to high-quality care.
A local resident of Shivpuri recounted their experience to IANS, revealing that a family member was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. Initially, they traveled to Mumbai for treatment; however, due to exorbitant costs and travel expenses, they opted to pursue treatment at the Shivpuri District Hospital and subsequently at Shivpuri Medical College.
"Cancer treatment is incredibly costly, but the Ayushman Bharat scheme is assisting us significantly. We must never lose hope; this is a battle for survival," the patient expressed, adding, "Thanks to the scheme, we are no longer burdened by the financial demands of expensive cancer care."
Dr. Dheerendra Sachan, an oncologist at Shivpuri Medical College, elaborated on the cancer treatment facilities available at the college.
"We offer surgery and chemotherapy services to cancer patients. However, due to the high costs associated with radiotherapy machines, we are currently unable to provide this service. Nevertheless, we have patients in the fourth stage who have been receiving treatment here for the past 5 to 6 years, which is quite a positive indication," he remarked.
He urged individuals to seek medical advice promptly if they encounter any health concerns, as early detection significantly boosts recovery chances.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme has not only alleviated the financial burden on underprivileged and middle-class cancer patients but has also granted them access to superior healthcare services, transforming their lives for the better.
