Bhopal Feb 22 (NationPress) A woman tragically lost her life and five others sustained serious injuries when a car careened off the road and fell into a steep gorge in the Anhoni region of Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday.
According to police reports, this unfortunate event took place around 400 km southwest of Bhopal.
The vehicle was transporting devotees returning from a pilgrimage to Chauragarh Mahadev in Nagpur, Maharashtra, when it suffered a significant malfunction as the rear wheel axle broke down during the journey. Consequently, the car lost control and descended into the ravine near Anhoni. Among the passengers were Savitri Khapre (52), Pranali (39), Umashankar (46), Tudlabai (38), Naveen Gokhale, and Harshal Gokhale.
Sadly, Savitri Khapre died instantly at the scene. The family was returning from their visit to Chauragarh, a revered temple of Lord Shiva located at a high elevation. The incident occurred at approximately 3 pm, as per police reports.
Local villagers promptly rushed to the scene, and with the help of an ambulance, the injured individuals were taken to the district hospital for urgent medical care.
Authorities have filed a case and arranged for the deceased's body to undergo a post-mortem examination.
Initial police investigations suggest that the unexpected failure of the car's axle was the primary cause of the accident.
The grieving family members are currently in deep sorrow, and police are diligently examining the circumstances surrounding this incident.
This marks the second accident in the Chhindwara district within a week. Just last Thursday, a speeding car struck two elderly individuals who were killed instantly in Ambara town, located in Chhindwara district.
After hitting the two elderly victims, the car collided with a stationary truck, resulting in severe injuries to the driver and his passenger. Tragically, one of them later succumbed to their injuries. The victims were identified as Mahadev Pawar (58) and Jawahar Gupta (65), who were friends enjoying an evening stroll, according to police.
