New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) On the eve of a two-day orientation programme for Delhi’s new MLAs, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Monday evaluated the preparations for the event that will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

“During the meeting, the programme's framework and arrangements were discussed in depth to enhance the effectiveness and informativeness of this training,” Speaker Gupta stated on social media platform X.

This training programme is set to play a crucial role in improving the efficiency and informativeness of Assembly operations, he emphasized.

The workshop aims to provide essential guidance to new legislators on various topics, including how to raise a point of order in the Assembly and how to introduce a private member’s Bill.

The orientation programme is designed to equip legislators with a clear understanding of parliamentary procedures, code of conduct, and best practices in governance. The event will be hosted in the Assembly Hall on March 18 and 19, as confirmed by the officials.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Gupta will also deliver a speech to the new legislators during the inaugural session, which will feature Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Leader of Opposition Atishi.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and LoP Atishi will further address the legislators, emphasizing the importance of legislative proficiency.

Speaker Gupta remarked, “This orientation programme is a key initiative aimed at enhancing the legislative skills of our MLAs. It will empower them to grasp parliamentary processes, legislative drafting, and the importance of meaningful debates, thus enabling them to engage actively in the Assembly.”

The Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) will facilitate the training sessions, providing insights into parliamentary regulations and legislative practices. PRIDE, under the direction of the Lok Sabha Speaker, organizes training for MPs, legislative staff, and other relevant parties.

The two-day programme will feature expert-led lectures, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that concentrate on good governance, policy-making, and legislative structures.

These sessions will be held in the Conference Hall adjacent to the Chief Minister’s office, addressing significant topics like constitutional duties, ethical governance, and law-making processes.

The programme will wrap up on March 19 with a speech by Delhi Minister for Legislative Affairs Pravesh Sahib Singh, followed by concluding remarks from Speaker Gupta.

This initiative represents a vital step towards fortifying democratic governance, ensuring that elected representatives are adequately prepared to serve the people of Delhi more effectively, according to the Speaker.
