Jammu, February 22 (NationPress) The police in Jammu and Kashmir reported on Saturday that the driver of a bus transporting pilgrims lost his life when the vehicle plummeted into a steep gorge at Manda Naka in the Jammu district.
According to authorities, the passenger bus, registered as UK 07 PA-5640 from MS Ram Dayal Travels, was en route from Katra to Delhi when it experienced a tragic accident, falling into a gorge approximately 25 to 30 feet deep near Manda Naka, Panthirthi Jammu.
The police spokesperson indicated that all 17 passengers aboard (most of whom sustained no or only minor injuries) were taken to GMC Jammu for treatment and are currently in stable condition.
“Efforts are ongoing to recover the driver’s body,” the police reported.
Jammu police, traffic officials, SDRF, as well as fire and emergency services are actively engaged in the recovery operation.
In response to the incident, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences regarding the tragedy.
“The road accident at Manda in Jammu is deeply distressing. During this time of sorrow, my thoughts are with the family of the driver who tragically passed away. I wish a swift recovery for the injured. I have instructed senior officials to provide all necessary assistance to the injured pilgrims,” stated the Lieutenant Governor.
