New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) The vote counting for the Haryana municipal elections kicked off on Wednesday.

The elections for mayors, presidents, and ward members across multiple Municipal Corporations, Councils, and Committees took place on March 2.

The counting commenced at 8 am.

These results will serve as the initial electoral assessment for both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party following the BJP's significant victory in the state Assembly elections in October 2024.

The electoral participation for the civic bodies was marked by a turnout of 46 percent.

The voting process was conducted to choose mayors and ward members in seven municipal corporations, councils, and committees across the state on March 2. Notably, the municipal elections in Panipat were held separately on March 9.

All results are expected to be announced throughout the day.

The outcomes will also reveal mayors and all ward members in the seven corporations located in Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, and Yamunanagar.

By-elections for the mayoral positions in the Ambala and Sonipat municipal corporations were also conducted on March 2. Elections for the president and all ward members in the four municipal councils of Ambala Sadar, Pataudi Jatoli Mandi, Thanesar, and Sirsa were also held. Furthermore, by-elections for the president's post in the municipal council of Sohna in the Gurugram district took place. Voting was also conducted to elect presidents and all ward members in 21 municipal committees.

Prior to the elections, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence that the BJP would prevail in these contests. He stated that the work would progress at three times the usual pace following the establishment of a “triple-engine” government in the state and civic bodies.

The Congress, having been out of power in the state for over a decade, is aiming to revitalize its electoral prospects in these civic elections.
