Prayagraj, Feb 12 (NationPress) As preparations ramp up for the Maghi Purnima Snan at the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Wednesday, local authorities have implemented robust security protocols and various initiatives to safeguard the visitors.
With millions of pilgrims anticipated to join the celebrations, the Uttar Pradesh Police are committed to providing a secure and seamless experience for everyone.
A fleet of 133 ambulances has been stationed to ensure the safety of attendees, and over 40 hospitals within Mahakumbhnagar are on high alert.
State-of-the-art facilities for everything from minor procedures to major surgeries have been established at the Maha Kumbh, supported by 2,000 medical personnel in Mahakumbhnagar and 700 at Swarooprani Nehru Hospital (SRN).
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna indicated that to handle the overwhelming crowds, a no-vehicle zone has been established, permitting only emergency vehicles to navigate the area.
Specific plans for crowd flow have been arranged, permitting vehicles of Kalpvasis (pilgrims staying for a month) to enter the fairgrounds post-bathing.
To mitigate confusion, police have organized special transport arrangements for the day.
He further noted, "In tomorrow's travel operations, special attention will be given to prevent the overlap of people during entry and exit... There is no vehicular movement on any roads within the fair... Visitors should follow the official UP Police accounts on Twitter and Facebook for verified updates... Vehicles will be allowed entry only if there is space and coordination between exit and entry points."
A sophisticated network of AI-driven CCTV cameras, drone monitoring, and real-time analytics has been deployed to ensure the secure movement of worshippers across designated sectors.
The authorities have also introduced a digital token system to manage access to bathing ghats, alleviating overcrowding.
Special considerations have been made for senior citizens and differently-abled pilgrims, making the Kumbh an inclusive spiritual event.
Previously, on Tuesday, Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar commended the state police's efforts in managing the immense crowds at Maha Kumbh, describing it as a "Herculean task" executed with "unmatched dedication".
Despite the challenges, UP Police personnel—from ground-level constables to senior officers—are diligently working to ensure smooth traffic, assist pilgrims, and maintain public order with remarkable patience and skill.
With two significant bathing festivals still upcoming, the number of individuals bathing is projected to exceed 500 million.
The Maha Kumbh, which commenced on January 13, will run until February 26.
The remaining key 'snan' dates at Maha Kumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami—Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
Authorities initially anticipated 45 crore devotees over 45 days, but this figure has already been surpassed within a month, with 15 days still left until the Maha Kumbh concludes.
