Kolkata, February 8 (NationPress) As members of West Bengal's medical community prepare to honor the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital on her birthday this Sunday, the organizing committee has extended an invitation to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the event.
The Joint Platform of Doctors has also reached out to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Kolkata Police, Bidhannagar police, the West Bengal Health Department, and the West Bengal Medical Council with similar invitations.
"The birthday of the RG Kar victim, who was like our daughter, falls on Sunday. Therefore, we are inviting individuals from all segments of society, regardless of their political affiliations," stated a representative of the platform.
The gathering is scheduled to take place at the R.G Kar premises starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
To date, there has been no response from the Chief Minister or her party, the Trinamool Congress, particularly regarding the invitation extended to her.
On the same day, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front, which has been actively advocating for justice in the rape and murder case, will also hold a ceremony at the hospital where an oath will be taken to persist in the movement for justice for the victim and her family.
In addition, a silent protest rally will commence at 2 p.m. from College Square in north Kolkata, with the victim's parents set to participate in all activities.
On February 5, the victim’s mother issued a heartfelt video message urging the public to join the protests on Sunday.
"My daughter passed away on August 9. Her birthday is on February 9, six months after the horrific crime. We are still seeking justice. We expect the community to stand with us on February 9. They have supported us for the past six months, and I urge them once again to join us on the streets on February 9," the victim’s mother stated in her video.
She further encouraged the public to plant a flower sapling on February 9, saying, "My daughter had a deep love for flowers. I hope each of you will plant a sapling either at your home or workplace," she appealed.
