New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) The most significant contribution of 67 interns who participated in the NHRC’s two-week online short-term internship program is their commitment to serving humanity through the application of knowledge, stated Commission Member Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi on Monday.

During his closing remarks, Justice Sarangi emphasized the rigorous selection process, highlighting the careful effort made to select individuals who are genuinely passionate about human rights.

The online internship program organized by the NHRC started on March 3, with 67 students from various universities across different regions and remote areas of the country completing the course. They gained comprehensive insights into the existing institutional framework aimed at protecting the human rights of vulnerable populations, including women, children, and the underprivileged.

The interns learned about the operational dynamics of various government institutions, the mechanisms in place for human rights protection, the realities faced by communities, and the essential actions required to safeguard the rights of marginalized groups.

Designed as a foundational course, the program enabled the interns to learn, develop, and transform into effective human rights defenders.

Justice Sarangi praised the interns for their dedication to continuous learning, which is an ongoing journey.

He stressed the vital role that Human Rights Institutions play globally in advancing and safeguarding human rights and encouraged the interns to leverage their newly acquired knowledge in service to humanity.

“This could pertain to any specific human rights issue they choose to advocate for,” he remarked.

Lt. Col. Virender Singh, Director of NHRC, presented the internship report, which highlighted that in addition to sessions covering various aspects of human rights led by senior NHRC officials, experts, and representatives from civil society, the interns also participated in virtual tours of Tihar Jail, a police station, and the Asha Kiran Shelter Home in Delhi.

Additionally, he revealed the winners of the book review, group research project presentation, and declamation competition.
