New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that as we navigate the era of artificial intelligence (AI), it compels humanity to ponder the essence of being human, highlighting the inherent power of AI that cannot supplant our existence.
During a discussion with American AI researcher and podcaster Lex Fridman, he expressed his conviction that no technological advancement can ever replicate the limitless creativity and imagination inherent in the human psyche.
“Throughout history, there has been a competitive dynamic between technology and humanity, sometimes depicted as a conflict. It was often suggested that technology could threaten human survival. Yet, with every technological leap, humans have adapted and maintained their lead. This has consistently been the outcome,” the Prime Minister shared with Fridman in an engaging three-hour dialogue.
Ultimately, it is humans who discover the optimal methods to leverage technology for their benefit.
“I contend that AI has prompted humanity to reflect deeply on what it means to be human. This represents the true power of AI. Due to the operational nature of AI, our understanding of work itself has been challenged. However, human imagination serves as the catalyst. AI can produce numerous outputs derived from this imagination, and in the future, its achievements may be even greater,” PM Modi elaborated.
Fridman concurred with PM Modi, noting, “It does make me, and many others, contemplate what makes humans unique since there are countless aspects that distinguish us. Our imagination, creativity, consciousness, and emotional capacity allow us to love, dream, take risks, and think beyond conventional boundaries.”
The PM emphasized that humans possess a natural instinct to care for each other and are inherently concerned about one another.
“Now, can anyone tell me, is AI capable of such empathy?” he questioned.
