New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt wishes to the citizens of Mauritius on their National Day this Wednesday, expressing enthusiasm for participating in the celebrations.

In a message posted on X, PM Modi stated, "National Day wishes to the people of Mauritius. I eagerly anticipate today’s events, including taking part in the celebrations."

He also shared a video featuring highlights from his visit thus far—from the splendid welcome to his meeting with Mauritius' Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

PM Modi arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday for his two-day official visit.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Ramgoolam, they discussed bilateral relations and explored new opportunities to enhance their "special bond to even greater heights".

On Tuesday evening, PM Modi addressed a Banquet Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Mauritius, expressing his sincere appreciation for the emotional and inspiring sentiments shared by the Mauritius PM.

"I’m thankful to the Prime Minister, the government of Mauritius, and its people for this magnificent welcome and hospitality. A visit to Mauritius is always incredibly special for an Indian Prime Minister. It transcends diplomatic duties and allows me to reconnect with family. I felt this sense of belonging the moment I arrived in Mauritius. It is a homecoming experience," he said.

He noted that there were "no barriers of protocol" and considered it a privilege to be invited once again as the Chief Guest for Mauritius' National Day. On this occasion, he conveyed his sincere wishes on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians.

PM Modi highlighted that the partnership between India and Mauritius goes beyond historical ties, built on shared values, mutual trust, and a collective vision for a brighter future. "Your leadership has consistently guided and fortified our relations. Under this leadership, our partnership continues to thrive and expand in all areas. India takes pride in being a reliable and esteemed partner in Mauritius' developmental journey. Together, we are engaged in significant infrastructure projects that are leaving a significant mark of progress across every part of Mauritius. The outcomes of our collaborative efforts in capacity building and human resource development are becoming increasingly evident in both government and private sectors," he remarked.

"In every challenging situation, whether it’s a natural disaster or the COVID pandemic, we have stood united like family. Today, our historical and cultural connections have evolved into a comprehensive partnership. Friends, Mauritius is our close maritime neighbor and an essential partner in the Indian Ocean region. During my last visit to Mauritius, I shared the Vision SAGAR, which centers on regional development, security, and shared prosperity. We firmly believe that the countries of the Global South must unite and speak with one voice. With this spirit, we prioritized the Global South during our G20 presidency and invited Mauritius to join us as a special guest," PM Modi stated during his address.

He added, "As I’ve mentioned before, if there is any nation in the world that has a rightful claim on India, it is Mauritius. There are no boundaries to our relationship. Our hopes and aspirations for our relations are limitless. In the future, we will continue to collaborate for the prosperity of our peoples and the peace and security of the entire region."

The Prime Minister of Mauritius announced on Tuesday that PM Modi will be awarded the nation's highest honor, 'The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean'.

PM Modi is the first Indian to receive this esteemed accolade, which acknowledges his contributions to strengthening the ties between India and Mauritius. This recognition marks the 21st international award granted to PM Modi by a foreign nation.
