Patna, March 17 (NationPress) The Bihar Assembly was the stage for intense political confrontation on Monday as the Leader of Opposition (LoP), Tejashwi Yadav, vehemently criticized the Nitish Kumar administration regarding the worsening law and order conditions in the state.
Tejashwi Yadav pointed to recent criminal occurrences in Munger and Araria, where police personnel were killed, along with the tragic murder of an SSB jawan in Kishanganj, to underscore the escalating crime dilemma in Bihar.
He also highlighted a horrific incident in Nalanda, where a young woman's body was discovered with ten nails driven into her feet, accusing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of remaining silent on such grave matters.
According to him, criminals operate with complete impunity, while the police themselves feel endangered in Bihar.
“If the police are not safe in Bihar, what assurance is there for the safety of ordinary citizens?” Tejashwi Yadav questioned.
Protests erupted from RJD MLAs, who caused a disturbance both inside and outside the Assembly.
During his address, Tejashwi Yadav referenced statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), stating, “Over the last two decades under Nitish Kumar, there have been 60,000 murders and more than 25,000 cases of rape and gang rape registered in Bihar.”
He further accused the BJP IT cell of employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manipulate and distort images and videos to tarnish his reputation.
He mentioned that he had filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell and the state DGP regarding this.
Tejashwi Yadav cautioned the public, saying, “Citizens must remain alert against the BJP’s deceptive narratives.”
The Opposition called for a discussion on law and order under an adjournment motion, but the Assembly Speaker rejected their plea.
LoP Tejashwi asserted, “The government is protecting criminals and evading discussion because it lacks explanations.”
Ashok Choudhary, the minister for the Rural Work Department, defended the Bihar government, asserting that police investigations into the murders in Munger and Araria are ongoing.
He confirmed that CM Nitish Kumar has conducted a law and order review meeting with officials and compared the crime situation in Bihar to that of the Lalu-Rabri governments.
“During the Lalu-Rabri administration, organized crime was prevalent, and leaders close to the ruling party were implicated, but under Nitish Kumar, no one can assert that any JD(U) leader is directly involved in crime,” Chaudhary remarked.
