Kolkata, March 15 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, the forthright Trinamool Congress MLA representing the Bharatpur assembly area in Murshidabad district, has officially replied to the show-cause notice from the state assembly's disciplinary committee.

The notice was concerning his contentious remarks regarding Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

Nevertheless, Kabir has remained steadfast, defending his comments and declining to withdraw them.

The notice was delivered to him by State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay on March 13 during the current budget session. On Saturday morning, Humayun Kabir submitted a detailed two-page response. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also expressed her discontent during a cabinet meeting on Thursday regarding Kabir's statements.

In his reply, Kabir asserted that he harbors no regrets about his remarks and does not view them as a breach of discipline. He emphasized that he would not retract his statements.

"I received a one-page show-cause notice, and I have provided a two-page reply. I sent my response to the WhatsApp number from which the notice originated at 9:35 a.m. today," Kabir stated.

He further claimed that the notice was based on selective video excerpts, noting that only 31 seconds from a total of 10 minutes and 29 seconds of footage were referenced.

"I have clarified the context in which I made my statement. I have not issued an apology for my comments. The party will determine its next steps," he added.

Kabir is known for making controversial statements that have caused embarrassment to his party.

Last year, he faced reprimand for suggesting that Hindus in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district would be "cut and thrown into the Bhagirathi River."

The Trinamool Congress leadership had previously issued a show-cause notice against him for making statements deemed anti-party.

Following Trinamool Congress's decision to nominate Yusuf Pathan, a former cricketer and current Lok Sabha member from the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency for the 2024 general elections, Kabir had criticized his own party for choosing an "outsider" for the constituency.
