Srinagar, Dec 22 (NationPress) A local trainee police officer lost his life on Sunday after suffering a bullet wound at the Police Training Centre (PTS) Manigam, located in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the deceased was struck by a bullet fired by a sentry stationed at the training facility.

“An investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the death of the trainee police officer. He was participating in a fundamental recruitment training program at PTS Manigam,” the officials mentioned.

Further information regarding the incident is anticipated.

The J&K Police have been concentrating on both fundamental and specialized training courses across various police training establishments, and they are also engaging in specialized training alongside the Army and the CAPFs to address the intricate challenges of maintaining law and order while countering terrorism originating from across the border.

The number of local police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation while combating terrorism, despite significant risks to their families, is unparalleled by any other police force in the country.

This dedication has led to the J&K Police being awarded the President of India’s Colour. During the presentation of the President’s Colour to the J&K Police, the then President, APJ Abdul Kalam, stated, “I hold immense admiration for you because you are the force, the first force that has been confronting all forms of terrorism. You have made remarkable sacrifices, with 860 individuals having given their lives for the safety and security of the nation.”

The President’s Colours were conferred upon the J&K Police on June 25, 2003. The President’s Colours Award represents the highest accolade that can be awarded to any unit of the armed forces in India. It is also referred to as ‘Nishan’, an emblem worn by all unit officers on the left sleeve of their uniforms.
