New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) The Delhi Police announced on Thursday the apprehension of two individuals for the alleged rape and molestation of a British tourist at a hotel in Mahipalpur, located in the Vasant Kunj area of southwest Delhi.
Following their arrests, the police informed the British High Commission about the situation, which unfolded on the night of March 11.
The woman had arrived in India a month prior, spending some time in Maharashtra before traveling to Goa.
She came to Delhi on March 11 to meet Kailash, 24, a person she connected with recently on Instagram, according to police officials.
The woman’s “friend” and his associate have been taken into custody for the crimes of rape and molestation, as stated by the police on Thursday.
The assault occurred on Tuesday night after the victim and her friend Kailash, 25, who is unemployed, enjoyed dinner and drinks together, the police reported.
Kailash, residing in Vasundhara-Mayur Vihar, has been charged with rape, while his friend Wasim, who works as a housekeeper, has been charged with molestation, according to the police.
Kailash reportedly completed his education up to Class 12 and is not fluent in English, with police noting that he managed to communicate with the British woman using Google Translate.
“Kailash would converse in Hindi on Google Translate and subsequently read the English translation to the British woman,” an official stated.
The incident came to light when the woman visited a hospital for a medical examination on Wednesday morning. Hospital staff subsequently alerted the Vasant Kunj North police station regarding the sexual assault.
The two accused, now in police remand, were taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon, a police official confirmed.
The woman, who arrived in India on March 7 for a holiday in Maharashtra and Goa, had called Kailash, inviting him to join her. However, after he expressed his inability to meet her in Mumbai, he invited her to Delhi. She arrived in the national capital on March 11 and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur.
Upon reaching the hotel, the woman contacted Kailash and requested that he come to meet her. Allegedly, the accused arrived at the hotel with Wasim and carried out the sexual assault on Tuesday.
Police reported that as Kailash attempted to assault her, she protested and raised an alarm, prompting him to call Wasim for assistance.
During the investigation, police recovered social media communications between Kailash and the victim.
Officials indicated that the woman was unaware of Kailash’s online profile.
