Coffs Harbour (Australia), March 16 (NationPress) Avani Prashanth delivered an impressive performance with a 5-under 65 in the last round of the Australian Women’s Classic, achieving a commendable Top-15 finish in her debut season on the Ladies European Tour. With earlier rounds of 72-70, her total score was 3-under 207, finishing six shots behind the champion, Manon De Roey, who clinched victory with a birdie on the final hole against Cara Gainer.
Another Indian participant, Pranavi Urs, who made the cut, recorded a score of 72 and ended in T-65. Unfortunately, Diksha Dagar missed the cut. Avani started her round at the tenth hole, making birdies on the 10th, 12th, 14th, 17th, and 18th holes. She added a sixth birdie on the second hole, reaching a score of 6-under and eyeing a Top-10 finish. However, she dropped shots on the third and fifth holes but managed to secure one more birdie at the seventh.
Having previously finished in the Top-10 at her home event, the Indian Open, while still an amateur, Avani expressed satisfaction with her final round performance, stating, “It was a good final day as I had been struggling with reading the greens the past two days. I finally figured it out today, so it was really good. I holed a short one on the first, the tenth of the course. After that, I made a lot of long putts.”
“I don't believe I had many approaches close to the hole. Of the seven birdies, only two were from approaches within eight feet; the rest were long putts between 15-25 feet. Low scores were needed here due to the hard greens and the windy conditions. I'm so glad I got it together and I'm looking forward to next week.”
For the winner, Manon, this victory marks her third win on the Ladies European Tour (LET), moving her to second place in the 2025 Order of Merit. De Roey made a crucial birdie on the 18th hole, solidifying her status as a three-time LET champion.
During a tense final round, the Belgian maintained her composure, executing an excellent approach to seven feet at the par-4 18th before sealing her victory with a putt.
This win is De Roey's third on the LET, following victories at the 2022 Aramco Team Series in Bangkok and the 2024 Investec SA Women’s Open.
In solo second place was Gainer at eight-under par after a strong finish. The rising star, Wongras, concluded the week in third at seven-under par. Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall shot a 66 (-4) to tie for fourth alongside Kemp at six-under par, marking an incredible comeback after breaking her leg seven months ago.
The LET will continue its co-sanctioned Australian swing with the upcoming Ford NSW Women’s Open in Wollongong.
