New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) In preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid made his way to the team's training camp in Jaipur a week after he sustained an injury to his left leg during a club match in Bengaluru. He arrived at the training session using crutches.
A video posted by RR shows Dravid arriving in a golf cart with a medical boot, transitioning to crutches upon disembarking. Despite his injury and reliance on crutches, the head coach remained actively engaged in the training session, closely supervising the proceedings.
Dravid suffered a left calf muscle injury while participating in a match for Vijaya Cricket Club against Jayanagar Cricketers during the Karnataka State Cricket Association Group I, League III semifinal for the Sri Nassur Memorial Shield.
On Wednesday, the Royals shared a photo of Dravid in a cast on his left leg, captioning it, "Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who picked up an injury while playing cricket in Bangalore, is recovering well and will join us today (Wednesday) in Jaipur."
The former Indian head coach surprised many by returning to the cricket field alongside his younger son Anvay in a KSCA Group I, Division III league match in the Nassur Memorial Shield on February 22.
Dravid and Anvay played for the Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) in a 50-over match against the Young Lions Club at the SLS Kreedangana cricket ground in Bengaluru.
In this match, the Indian cricket legend batted at No. 6, scoring 10 runs off eight balls before being dismissed by spinner AR Ullas. The father-son duo built a brief partnership of 17 runs for the fifth wicket.
Dravid took to the field again in the semifinal against the Jayanagar Cricketers. When the Vijaya Cricket Club found themselves at 12/3 in the seventh over, Rahul came in to bat alongside his son Anvay.
After just two balls, the 52-year-old showed signs of discomfort with his leg, yet he persevered, forming a 66-ball partnership worth 43 runs with Anvay for the fourth wicket.
Though Dravid continued to fight through the injury, he ultimately required assistance to leave the field. Unfortunately, his determination did not change the outcome for Vijaya Cricket Club, Malur in the semifinal.
The Rajasthan Royals, who clinched the title in their inaugural year of 2008 and reached the finals again in 2022, are set to kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23.
