New Delhi, April 28 (NationPress) Former Formula 1 driver and Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene asserts that Ferrari boasts the most formidable line-up in the sport with their 2025 duo, emphasizing how Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are challenging each other to improve.
The seven-time world champion Hamilton made headlines with his transfer from Mercedes to the Scuderia during the off-season, pairing up with long-time Ferrari protégé Leclerc to create an exceptional driver partnership.
Although Hamilton's results with the Italian team have been inconsistent thus far, Gene sees numerous positive developments behind the scenes.
“It’s the best (on the grid) I believe there is no better pairing,” Gene stated in an interview on the Beyond the Grid podcast.
“Charles is currently in an excellent phase of his career – he has grown significantly. Being alongside Carlos, who is also a diligent, technically skilled, and organized driver, as well as having the experience of being teammates with Seb... Charles has been fortunate to have such talented teammates.
“Now, with Lewis as his partner, they collaborate exceptionally well. They are not involved in any political games. It’s clear they work well together, and they are motivating one another,” he added.
Sainz made room for Hamilton at Ferrari and is currently racing with Williams. Gene also commented on the emotional aspect of fellow Spaniard Sainz needing to step aside for Hamilton after four memorable and increasingly competitive seasons at Ferrari.
“Naturally, I felt sorry for Carlos since I’m Spanish and have a strong bond with him,” he mentioned. “However, when the opportunity arises to have Lewis in the team, and it’s a mutual admiration, you can understand Ferrari’s decision,” Gene concluded.
Ferrari currently holds fourth place in the Teams’ Championship after the first five races of the season with 78 points, trailing leaders McLaren by 110 points. Leclerc is fifth in the Drivers’ Standings with 47 points, while Hamilton is in seventh place with 31.
