Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) Hayley Matthews followed up her impressive innings of 77 runs by taking 3 wickets for 31 runs, as the Mumbai Indians advanced to the title showdown in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 against the Delhi Capitals. They secured a victory over the Gujarat Giants by 47 runs in the Eliminator held at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.

With significant contributions from Hayley and Nat Sciver-Brunt, both scoring 77 runs, alongside a remarkable 36 from captain Harmanpreet Kaur, MI amassed a formidable total of 213/4. In her bowling spell, the West Indies captain excelled with her off-spin, claiming three wickets as GG were bowled out for 166 within 19.2 overs.

Support came from Amelia Kerr, who took two wickets, while Nat and Shabnim Ismail also contributed to MI's bowling success, securing their position in the championship match against DC at the same venue on Saturday.

Shabnim made her mark when she caught Beth Mooney's edge, which was expertly taken by Hayley at first slip. Harleen Deol and Danielle Gibson struck five boundaries between them until Harleen was run out due to a precise throw from Sanskriti Gupta and Yastika Bhatia.

Hayley severely disrupted GG’s chase by dismissing Asheigh Gardner for just eight runs. Although Danielle and Phoebe Litchfield attempted to counter with boundaries, it was insufficient to bring the required run rate down.

A powerful throw by Amanjot Kaur led to Danielle’s run out at 34 runs, while Phoebe was stumped for 31 after misplaying a googly from Amelia. Following a mix-up, Kashvee Gautam was also run out. Bharti Fulmali and Simran Shaikh tried to stave off the inevitable with some boundaries, but Hayley ultimately bowled Bharti to seal the game.

From that point forward, Amelia, Nat, and Hayley each took a wicket to ensure that MI reached their second WPL final and maintained their perfect record against GG in front of their home crowd, which included team owners and IPL counterparts.
