Dubai, Feb 3 (NationPress) As the stage is set for the ILT20 Season 3 finale, the renowned Pakistani bowling icon and former captain Wasim Akram has thrown his support behind the Desert Vipers, believing they will surpass their rivals and clinch the title.
The Vipers, who were the first to secure a spot in the playoffs this season with a stellar performance in both batting and bowling, finished the league at the top. The defending champions, MI Emirates, secured second place in the points table to qualify. Meanwhile, Sharjah Warriorz and Dubai Capitals rounded out the playoff teams by achieving significant victories during the Super Sunday matches in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
With an impressive record of seven wins out of nine games, the Desert Vipers have demonstrated remarkable form throughout the league stage, bouncing back from a less successful previous season. This resurgence is why Akram has named the Vipers as his top choice.
“For me, Desert Vipers are my favorite team and there is a reason why they are my favorite,” he expressed. “It’s not solely because they are leading the table; it’s also due to the presence of three Pakistani players in their lineup, who have showcased excellent performances throughout the league. However, Azam Khan needs to step up his game. There is still a week left where he could achieve a quick-fire fifty to assist his team in winning,” Akram remarked.
Akram emphasized that the league offers a unique chance for UAE players to compete with global cricketing icons, and he believes the experience is benefitting players like Muhammad Waseem, Aayan Afzal Khan, and Muhammad Rohid, who have all risen to the occasion.
“Several UAE players have distinguished themselves this season. Waseem has been consistently performing as an opener and is quite experienced. When discussing fast bowlers, Rohid has been impressive. Aayan contributed significantly by hitting a six to lead his team to victory. He has proven to be a valuable all-rounder,” Akram added.
“What I anticipate from these talented players is that they take the lessons learned here and maintain their consistency, aiming to excel in their performances.
