New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and North West Delhi MP Yogender Chandolia on Monday live-streamed and “exposed” on social media the dismal condition of Central Government-constructed flats in the JJ Cluster area of Bawana, which AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has “refused” to allocate to those in need.
The site visit occurred a day after Kejriwal proposed building new affordable housing for sanitation workers in NDMC and MCD, prompting fierce criticism from the BJP, which accused the former Chief Minister of failing to utilize existing homes for the underprivileged and “selling new dreams” to them.
The focus of the two BJP leaders’ visit was to shed light on Kejriwal’s “double standards”, particularly his refusal to provide 50,000 flats to sanitation workers and slum dwellers due to his “political rivalry” with the Narendra Modi government.
During a media briefing, Sachdeva stated, “Today, we inspected the dilapidated flats, which are a consequence of Kejriwal’s obstinacy and political rivalry, thereby exposing his double standards.”
The BJP leaders pointed out that the flats' walls had collapsed owing to poor maintenance, and the area was overrun with wild vegetation and weeds.
Sachdeva accused the Kejriwal administration of squandering public funds, using these derelict government flats as evident proof.
He asserted that 50,000 flats had fallen into disrepair solely because Kejriwal insisted on renaming the flats after himself and seeking personal recognition for the Central Government’s initiative.
The Delhi BJP head mentioned that the Central government allocated approximately Rs 12,000 crore for constructing these flats intended for sanitation workers and the economically disadvantaged. Yet, even after being elected Chief Minister three times, Kejriwal failed to distribute them to those in need and instead made empty promises about constructing new flats.
Sachdeva pledged that once a BJP-led administration assumes control in Delhi, the party will restore these flats, just as the Central government has successfully built sturdy homes for four crore rural and urban residents across India.
He highlighted the Modi government’s efforts, noting that “Swabhimaan Apartments” were provided to Delhi’s underprivileged by the Central government.
In contrast, the Kejriwal government overlooked a departmental request for Rs 250 crore intended for renovating these flats, only allocating a mere Rs 1 lakh instead.
He added that Kejriwal’s “duplicitous” policies, treating the underprivileged merely as a vote bank, are now evident, and his justifications are wearing thin.
Chandolia criticized the Kejriwal government for its injustice toward the disadvantaged, stating, “Kejriwal did not deliver what he promised and only acted in detrimental ways during his term.”
Chandolia warned that Kejriwal believes he can keep deceiving Delhi’s residents as he has for the past 10 years, but he may not succeed.
