Agartala, March 15 (NationPress) The Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) has formed a five-member task force aimed at enhancing investment in the northeastern states, with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha serving as its convener.
A senior official from the Tripura government revealed that during the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), which took place on December 21 of the previous year in Agartala, it was agreed to establish a high-level task force focused on promoting investment in the northeastern area, including the Chief Ministers of the various states.
The DoNER Ministry has thus created this task force, which includes Saha, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Chief Ministers Conrad K. Sangma (Meghalaya), Neiphiu Rio (Nagaland), and Prem Singh Tamang (Sikkim) as members.
This task force is expected to deliver its report to the NEC within six months, evaluating the current investment landscape, including policies, incentives, and infrastructure within the northeastern region. It aims to devise a strategic plan to establish the area as a preferred investment hub for priority sectors like agriculture, tourism, logistics, IT, and renewable energy.
The initiative will spotlight high-potential sectors and regions within the Northeast Region (NER) to create specialized investment clusters for the development of sectoral hubs, such as agro-processing zones, tourism circuits, IT parks, and renewable energy corridors. It will propose strategies to attract both domestic and international investments in these priority sectors, with an emphasis on public-private partnerships (PPPs), as noted in the DoNER Ministry's notification.
Furthermore, the task force will recommend policy reforms to simplify approvals, improve the ease of doing business, and address the concerns of investors.
Meanwhile, the DoNER Ministry has already conducted eight Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshows across various parts of the country, including Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Kolkata, to showcase the resources and potential of the northeastern states. The most recent North East Trade and Investment Roadshow took place in Chennai on February 5, inaugurated by DoNER Minister Scindia, who encouraged investors and industrialists to participate in the transformative journey of the ‘Ashtalakshmi’ region as it aspires to become a key driver of India’s growth.
