Ranchi, March 6 (NationPress) Two individuals were fatally shot at the Anand Sheela Ashram located in the Chanho police station area of Ranchi, as reported by police officials on Thursday.
This tragic event has caused widespread alarm in the area. The deceased, identified as Rajendra Yadav and Mahesh, were attacked by unknown assailants around midnight on Wednesday, according to police sources.
Initial investigations indicate that a group of armed intruders entered the ashram in Chowda Chama village and opened fire on Rajendra Yadav. Upon hearing the shots, Mahesh rushed to assist, only to be targeted by the assailants as well. Both victims had been residents of the ashram for an extended period.
Upon hearing the shots, local residents hurried to the scene, but the attackers had already escaped. The villagers promptly notified the Chanho police, who arrived and rushed the injured to the hospital. While Mahesh was pronounced dead upon arrival, Rajendra Yadav succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
In response to the incident, Ranchi Rural Superintendent of Police Sumit Agarwal announced the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the double homicide. Police have initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators and are conducting raids in various areas to locate them.
"The culprits will be apprehended shortly. We are examining all possible leads, and some individuals have been detained for questioning," stated SP Agarwal.
Sources indicate that the murders may be connected to a prior crime involving Rajendra Yadav, who was allegedly implicated in the killing of his brother's wife and young daughter, after which he had sought refuge at the ashram. Authorities suspect that this lingering animosity may have precipitated the attack.
Meanwhile, the remains of both victims have been transferred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences for autopsy as the investigation continues.
