Guwahati, Feb 22 (NationPress) The conflict between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and opposition leaders is intensifying as Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has addressed a letter to the CM, requesting an inquiry into his wife Gitasree Tamuly's hiring process at a college. The Chief Minister previously launched a pointed accusation against Gogoi during an Assembly session, claiming that his wife secured a teaching position through dubious means. Akhil Gogoi has labeled the CM's remarks as disgraceful and hurtful to his family's sentiments, demanding a fair investigation to ascertain any potential irregularities.

In the meantime, Gitasree Tamuly has voluntarily chosen to refrain from her duties until the inquiry concludes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining integrity in public service.

Additionally, Gogoi challenged the CM's assertions regarding his property. During the Assembly session, CM Sarma allegedly claimed that Gogoi's residence in Nizarapar, Chandmari was acquired through illicit means and corruption.

In response to these accusations, Gogoi clarified that the property was bought by his wife from the deceased Bhadra Borah. He urged CM Sarma to conduct a formal investigation into the purchase, stating that if the probe reveals any corrupt practices in acquiring the house, he would surrender it to the Assam government.

It is noteworthy that Tamuly was appointed as an Assistant Professor at B. Barooah College in Guwahati in 2011.

Meanwhile, CM Sarma also targeted Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi over his alleged connections to Pakistan. He asserted that once the full findings of the Assam Police investigation are disclosed, it would have a devastating impact on the Congress party.

Sarma stated, "Pakistani national Ali Sheikh, against whom the state government has filed an FIR due to remarks that could disrupt internal harmony, traveled to India at least 18 times between 2010 and 2018, as discovered in preliminary investigations by Assam Police."

He added, "The SIT investigating this matter discovered in just three days that Sheikh made multiple trips to India. As the investigation unfolds, we will uncover who facilitated his visits to India and who met with Sheikh. This information will be revealed in the upcoming days. The initial findings I received regarding this case will be extremely damaging for the Congress party, making it challenging for them to manage," the Chief Minister concluded.
