Chennai, Feb 4 (NationPress) O. Panneerselvam (OPS), the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and leader of the AIADMK splinter group, has launched a fierce attack on the ruling DMK government, claiming that even police officers are at risk under its governance.

In a statement released on Tuesday, OPS, currently leading the AIADMK Thongargal Urimai Meetpu Kuzhu, voiced his worries regarding the law and order situation in the state. He pointed to two specific occurrences: an assault on a police station in Ranipet and a petition filed by senior police officer Kalpana Nayak, who investigated irregularities within the Tamil Nadu Uniform Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB).

OPS mentioned that ADGP Kalpana Nayak formally reported threats to her life following her revelations about irregularities in the TNUSRB recruitment process. He stated that her claims have created significant unease throughout the state. Emphasizing the seriousness of the matter, OPS highlighted that even a senior police officer had to request protection, indicating a troubling trend in Tamil Nadu’s law enforcement.

Furthermore, he denounced an incident in which unknown assailants threw a petrol bomb at a police station, describing it as a disturbing indication of worsening security. “When the police, responsible for public safety, feel endangered themselves, it poses grave questions about law and order in the state,” he stated.

Additionally, OPS accused the ruling party of intentionally delaying legal proceedings against those linked to the TNUSRB recruitment issues, due to interference from party officials. He called on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to act swiftly, take this matter seriously, and restore law and order in Tamil Nadu.

OPS’s condemnation follows a contentious case involving ADGP Kalpana Nayak. In a written communication to Tamil Nadu’s Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal, Nayak alleged that a fire in her office on July 29, 2024, was a life-threatening act.

According to her report, the fire occurred after she revealed significant irregularities in the implementation of communal reservations within the TNUSRB recruitment. Nayak stated she learned of the fire while away and found her office devastated, with her chair burned upon her return.

Nayak claimed that had she been present, her life could have been endangered. However, a statement from the Tamil Nadu DGP’s office on February 3, 2025, refuted claims of foul play. The DGP’s office asserted that a comprehensive investigation began promptly following Nayak’s complaint on August 14, 2024.

Forensic experts concluded that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning unit, finding no signs of arson or a planned attack on Nayak’s life. Despite the official ruling, OPS insisted that these events highlight critical weaknesses within the law enforcement system and called for immediate government action.
