Mumbai, Feb 21 (NationPress) Rakhi Sawant has received a summon from the Maharashtra Police Cyber Cell amidst the ongoing Ranveer Allahbadia controversy. She expressed her thoughts on social media, stating that instead of issuing a summon, they could have simply conducted a video call to ask her questions.
In a video shared on her Instagram, Rakhi remarked, "There is no sense in sending me a summon. You can just video call me and I will address every inquiry. I am an artist. I was compensated for the interview, and I completed it without using any abusive language."
Rakhi Sawant is scheduled to appear before the Cyber Cell on February 24 to provide her statements.
For those unaware, Rakhi featured on Samay Raina’s show "India's Got Latent" in October last year. During the show, she engaged in a fierce argument with co-judge Maheep Singh, culminating in her throwing a chair on stage. The incident gained widespread attention after an audience member posted the footage online, leading to the abrupt conclusion of the episode.
On the same day, Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia are also expected to appear before the Cyber Cell to give their statements. The Supreme Court has instructed Ranveer to present his passport to the investigating officer at the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Thane.
In a related development, stand-up comedian Shashwat Maheshwari was also summoned yesterday to provide his statement. The Maharashtra Cyber Department has already collected statements from Raghu Ram and Devesh Dixit.
To refresh your memory, Ranveer Allahbadia faced significant backlash during his appearance on "India’s Got Latent", where he posed an inappropriate question to a female contestant about her parents.
Following this incident, a formal complaint was filed with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission.
Ranveer Allahbadia has since issued an apology for his insensitive comment.
Additionally, comedian Samay Raina has removed all episodes of "India’s Got Latent" from YouTube.
