Srinagar, Jan 20 (NationPress) A soldier sustained injuries on Monday during renewed gunfire between joint security forces and terrorists, marking the second day of an anti-terror operation in the Sopore sub-division of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials reported that the soldier was wounded as hostilities reignited during the confrontation in the Gujjarpati region of Zaloora within the Sopore sub-division.
“The operation commenced in the area yesterday after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists. The operation was temporarily halted yesterday to tighten security and block potential escape routes for the hiding militants. With the dawn today, firing resumed, resulting in a soldier being injured,” officials stated.
The injured soldier has been transferred to a hospital for medical care, according to officials.
On Sunday, a coordinated effort by the army, Jammu and Kashmir police, and the CRPF led to the cordoning off of the Gujjarpati area, during which a terrorist hideout was dismantled.
During the search operations, security forces came under fire, prompting an encounter. Officials confirmed that the operation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.
It is noteworthy that security forces have been intensively targeting terrorists, their over-ground associates (OGWs), and sympathizers.
The Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, has ordered continued pursuit of terrorists following a series of heinous attacks after the peaceful, participatory Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections.
Intelligence reports indicate that terrorist handlers based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) are dissatisfied with the substantial election turnout. They have reportedly instructed terrorists to launch attacks against the army, security personnel, police, and civilians to display their presence and instill fear among the peace-loving citizens of the union territory.
