Kolkata, Feb 1 (NationPress) A commendable aspect of the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget proposals for the Financial Year 2025-2026 has been the Union government's emphasis on the nation's shift towards a green economy, according to a group of green technologists and environmental advocates.
As noted by Kolkata-based green technologist and environmentalist Somendra Mohan Ghosh, the government's commitment to environmental protection is anticipated to not only expedite the transition to a green economy but also foster green job creation, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
"The Budget is expected to offer incentives and policy backing for enhancing green hydrogen production and infrastructure, which aligns with India's ambition of becoming a global leader in green hydrogen," Ghosh stated.
He also highlighted the government's targeted approach to establish a robust carbon market framework that encourages industries to adopt sustainable practices. Additionally, incentives for domestic battery production and the expansion of EV charging networks are anticipated to boost the adoption of electric vehicles, which are certainly positive steps for environmental concerns.
Nonetheless, Ghosh emphasized the necessity for increased funding from the Union government for local vocational training in green construction, renewable energy technologies, and sustainable agriculture.
Kolkata-based environmental activist Naba Dutta remarked that the country's transition to a green economy heavily relies on the allocation of funds for environment, forestry, and wildlife.
"One consideration is channeling the funds through corporate entities for sectors like solar energy, which involves profit and loss dynamics. The other consideration is enhancing social expenditure to facilitate the nation's advancement towards a green economy. Despite some drawbacks, I must acknowledge that the current Union government's dedication to promoting renewable energy, particularly solar energy, is indeed commendable," Dutta added.
He further mentioned that the government's focus on encouraging green vehicles, especially electric vehicles, is a significant move in addressing the threat of automobile emissions.
