New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) In line with India's ambitious goal to establish itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared on Saturday the formation of three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) dedicated to AI in the education sector.

This initiative, which comes with a substantial budget of Rs 500 crore, is designed to enhance AI research and its practical application within the educational framework of the nation.

The newly established AI Centres of Excellence will engage in cutting-edge research, develop AI learning tools, and promote partnerships between educational institutions and industries. The primary objective is to prepare students with the essential skills required for future success.

AI is revolutionizing industries around the globe, and India must take the lead in both AI research and its practical uses,” FM Sitharaman remarked while unveiling the Union Budget in Parliament.

She emphasized that these Centres of Excellence will serve as innovation hubs and contribute to crafting AI solutions applicable in the educational domain.

The CoEs will collaborate closely with leading educational institutions, research organizations, and private sector companies to devise AI models that cater to diverse educational requirements.

This initiative includes developing personalized learning tools, automated assessments, and AI-based tutoring systems aimed at enriching the student learning experience.

India is expected to introduce its own safe and secure indigenous artificial intelligence (AI) model within the next six months at a competitive price point. This initiative is timely, as India is recognized as a trustworthy nation, enhancing its position as a reliable technological powerhouse for ethical AI solutions in the future.

Supported by a state-of-the-art common computing facility, the IndiaAI mission is advancing towards tailoring indigenous AI solutions that incorporate Indian languages for the local context.

Additionally, the government has announced efforts to upgrade infrastructure at five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established post-2014.

This expansion aims to introduce academic and hostel amenities, facilitating accommodation for an additional 6,500 students. The IITs set to benefit from this initiative include IIT Bhilai, IIT Dharwad, IIT Goa, IIT Jammu, and IIT Tirupati.
