New Delhi, Feb 5 (NationPress) Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, convened with influential Indian startup founders and investors in a discreet session yesterday, where they explored the ChatGPT creator's strategy for the Indian market.

Altman, alongside key executives such as Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil and VP of Engineering Srinivas Narayanan, addressed the hurdles encountered by AI-driven enterprises and the prospects for cooperative ventures.

Notable startup leaders in attendance included Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal, Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl, Chaayos co-founder Raghav Verma, Ixigo Group CEO Aloke Bajpai, Haptik CEO Aakrit Vaish, and HealthifyMe’s Tushar Vashisht.

Altman’s trip to India arrives at a pivotal moment as large language models (LLMs) dominate global AI conversations.

In a social media post featuring his picture with Altman, Sharma humorously stated on X: "Sam bh-ai," creatively blending the Hindi term for brother (bhai) with AI, highlighting OpenAI's proficiency.

“There is much to accomplish for AI in India, with thrilling months ahead,” Vaish expressed on X.

Munjal remarked on the enriching roundtable with Altman.

Previously, during a discussion with Union Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Altman shared that India stands as the company’s second-largest market, with OpenAI’s user base in the nation having tripled over the last year.

'India is a critically significant market for AI in general, and for OpenAI specifically,” stated Sam Altman.

He further noted that the country has fully embraced AI technology and is developing the entire ecosystem, from chips to models and applications.

In parallel, the Indian government is amplifying its efforts to create its own foundational AI models.

As part of the ₹10,738 crore India AI Mission, Vaishnaw announced last week that various Indian startups have been selected to spearhead these initiatives.
