New Delhi, Feb 5 (NationPress) As the artificial intelligence (AI) competition intensifies worldwide, India has formulated a comprehensive strategy to establish a complete AI stack, and OpenAI is eager to collaborate with the nation on this endeavor, stated Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday.

Following a meeting with OpenAI Co-founder and CEO Sam Altman in the capital, the Union Minister shared on X that Altman commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for AI and his overarching goal to democratize technology.

“Had a remarkable discussion with @sama about our strategy to create the entire AI stack—GPUs, models, and applications. OpenAI is ready to collaborate with India on all three,” Minister Vaishnaw posted.

The Minister emphasized that PM Modi “guides us to democratize technology,” and Altman “appreciated PM’s vision.”

Previously, Altman, the creator of the popular ChatGPT models, remarked that India stands as a significant market for AI and ranks as the company’s second-largest market globally.

According to him, India should lead in the AI sector. “AI models may not be inexpensive yet, but they are achievable. India must take the lead in this area,” he remarked during the gathering.

Altman expressed his admiration for how India has adopted technology and developed a comprehensive ecosystem around it.

In the recently unveiled Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the establishment of three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in AI for education. This initiative, with a budget allocation of Rs 500 crore, aims to enhance AI research and its integration into the nation’s educational system.

The new AI Centres of Excellence will focus on advanced research, developing AI learning tools, and promoting collaboration between educational institutions and industries. The aim is to equip students with essential skills for future success. “AI is transforming industries globally, and India needs to lead in both AI research and its practical applications,” FM Sitharaman stated.

The country is also expected to launch a safe and secure indigenous AI model within six months at a reasonable cost. Supported by a sophisticated common computing facility, the IndiaAI mission is progressing towards customizing indigenous AI solutions for the local context, utilizing Indian languages.
