Chennai, Feb 3 (NationPress) Actress Jomol, who portrayed young Unniarcha in the Malayalam masterpiece Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, starring Mammootty in the lead role, has expressed her excitement regarding the film's re-release after 36 years and the chance to view it with her children on the big screen.
Originally premiered in 1989, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha emerged as a major box office success. With Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Madhavi, Balan K. Nair, and Captain Raju in pivotal roles, the film received significant acclaim for its outstanding performances and exceptional narrative. It was produced by P.V. Gangadharan under the banner of Grihalakshmi Productions.
The film is scheduled for re-release on February 7.
In discussing her feelings about the re-release, Jomol stated, “A film returning after 36 years—it’s something I never anticipated! Although the possibility of a re-release was mentioned a few years back, there was no follow-up. So, I completely lost track of it. It was only a month ago that we learned it would soon happen. I was overjoyed—especially because I’ll be experiencing this movie with my children. I was merely five or six when I acted in it, and I don’t even remember viewing it in a theater. I’ve seen it multiple times on YouTube, but never the whole film with my kids. Thus, I am both excited and anxious to share this experience with them.”
She also shared her views on how today’s audience will perceive the film, saying, “I’m incredibly excited that the new generation will have the opportunity to watch—or rather, immerse themselves in—the magic of this legendary film in theaters. Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha remains an epic narrative, a film that has crossed generational boundaries. It stands as a testament to remarkable filmmaking. Every line was meticulously crafted to convey emotion and depth, and every scene was thoughtfully composed to encapsulate its essence. It’s essential viewing for its brilliant direction, engaging storyline, and exceptional performances.”
Reflecting on the late producer of the film, she remarked, “Yes, this re-release serves as a tribute to Producer PVG uncle—to me, that’s who he was. I’ve known him since I was four, and I carry a mix of nostalgia and appreciation. PVG uncle not only introduced me to the film industry but also supported me throughout. I wish he could have been here for this release—a dream he held dear. However, his daughters have taken on the duty of realizing his aspiration. Like their father, they have been my source of strength.”
