Mumbai, Dec 26 (NationPress) More than 150 families have sought medical insurance benefits totaling around Rs 7 crore through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) at a two-day camp dedicated to senior citizens in Dharavi, reported the Dharavi Social Mission (DSM) on Thursday.
The Lok Vikas Camp, held at Prajapati Sahakari Utpadak Mandal in Kumbharwada on December 20 and 21, aimed to facilitate access to government healthcare initiatives and enroll eligible participants under the PM-JAY, as stated in an official announcement.
A specialized desk was established to assist super senior citizens, those aged 70 years and above, ensuring smooth registration.
This initiative addressed the urgent need for awareness and accessibility regarding government schemes in Dharavi, where residents, despite being located in the core of Mumbai, were often unaware of such benefits.
The participants conveyed their appreciation for the initiative. Chitroda Manibai Hamir, a beneficiary at the camp, remarked, "This scheme is incredibly beneficial. I am thrilled to receive this card."
Laxmi Chitroda, who came to register her father-in-law, praised the efforts of DSM, stating, "I was previously unaware of this scheme. DSM has been immensely helpful in raising awareness and guiding us through the process."
Among the Ayushman Bharat applicants was 96-year-old Sonabai Kamalia, who received personal assistance in enrolling for the scheme.
The event brought hope to all senior citizens, empowering the elderly and their families with essential healthcare benefits.
The camp received a positive reception from the community, with residents expressing a desire for more such initiatives in Dharavi.
DSM announced plans to organize similar events in other sectors of Dharavi, with the goal of extending these government welfare programs to a broader audience.
