Mumbai, Feb 3 (NationPress) The count of suspected Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) patients has risen to 163, with five suspected fatalities reported in Maharashtra as of Monday.

Out of these, 127 have been confirmed as GBS cases. On Monday, one new suspected GBS case was identified, while four others are from prior days.

The state Public Health Department indicates that 32 patients hail from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 86 are from recently incorporated villages within the PMC area, 18 are from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 19 from Pune rural, and eight from various districts.

Currently, 47 patients have been discharged, 47 are in intensive care, and 21 require ventilators.

Among the 163 patients, there are 24 aged 0-9 years, 22 from 10-19 years, 35 from 20-29 years, 20 from 30-39 years, 18 from 40-49 years, 25 from 50-59 years, 14 from 60-69 years, 2 from 70-79 years, and 3 from 80-89 years.

On Monday, 63 serum samples were dispatched to NIMHANS Bengaluru for testing of Antiganglioside Antibodies.

Symptoms of GBS include sudden weakness or paralysis in limbs, difficulty in walking, and prolonged diarrhea.

The public health department urges citizens to remain calm and seek medical attention at a government facility if symptoms arise. They also recommend taking preventive actions.

Citizens are advised to ensure good water quality, consume boiled water, and eat fresh, clean food while avoiding stale and undercooked meals (like chicken or mutton).
