Hyderabad, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Telangana government has officially removed the Superintendent of Nizamabad Government General Hospital following a birthday party held in her office that led to controversy. Dr Christina Z. Chongthu, Secretary of the Department of Medical and Health, has issued a directive to dismiss Dr Prathima Raj as Superintendent and has called for an investigation into the events that reportedly took place on the night of January 9.
Professor Srinivas from the Paediatrics Department at Government General Hospital (GGH) has been designated as the acting Superintendent.
This decision was prompted by Minister for Medical and Health Damodar Raja Narasimha, who took serious notice of the situation.
Footage showing the Superintendent hosting birthday festivities in her office and receiving gifts from staff members circulated widely on social media. The office was adorned with balloons and illuminated for the celebration.
The event featured cake cutting, along with the giving of bouquets and gifts. Allegedly, patients attending the hospital were neglected due to the absence of staff for their care.
A man who brought his wife to the hospital had to reportedly carry her on his shoulders as there were no wheelchairs or stretchers available. Bidya Naik from Kalyapur village in Renjal mandal transported his wife, who had experienced seizures, to the hospital. When he found no one to assist her, he asked those present and was informed that the staff was engaged in celebrating the Superintendent's birthday in her office.
Naik reported the incident to Nizamabad Urban MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta, who intervened and instructed hospital officials to ensure proper treatment.
In response, Dr Prathima Raj asserted that the hospital was not aware of any patient being carried on shoulders. She stated that the patient, who was experiencing withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, received necessary care. Furthermore, she accused certain individuals of attempting to tarnish the hospital’s reputation through false claims.
