Quetta, Jan 4 (NationPress) A suicide bomb explosion targeting a passenger van and a police vehicle has resulted in the deaths of at least eight security personnel and has reportedly injured over 40 others, most of whom were security officials.

The separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has taken responsibility for this attack.

The suicide blast took place in the Dhang area of Turbat, Balochistan.

A loud explosion occurred when a passenger van and an adjacent police vehicle were struck.

It was later disclosed that many passengers in the van were also security officials.

Immediately following the explosion, police and security forces arrived at the scene and sealed off the area.

Rescue teams transported the injured and deceased to local hospitals, where officials later confirmed the casualties, noting that many of the injured were in critical condition.

The BLA faction, known as the Majeed Brigade, claimed accountability for the incident.

In a statement, they declared, "The Majeed brigade Firdayee (suicide bomber) unit of Baloch Liberation Army executed a Fidayeen attack on a convoy of the occupying Pakistani army in Turbat, resulting in the elimination of numerous military personnel. Our organization takes full responsibility for this attack."

This incident is part of a continuing series of assaults by the BLA in Balochistan, targeting military convoys, security checkposts, and police vehicles.

Previously, the Majeed brigade has conducted ambushes against security personnel and their families.

Balochistan remains one of the most challenging areas for Pakistani security forces.

In a recent press briefing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that the armed forces executed over 57,775 military operations in 2024, primarily in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

As 2025 begins, the recent BLA attacks in Turbat highlight the ongoing security challenges that may keep the forces on high alert.
