Kyiv, Jan 4 (NationPress) Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has detailed ten key priorities that will shape his government's agenda this year, as reported by the cabinet's press service.

The development of the defence and security sector will be Ukraine's primary objective, Shmyhal emphasized, highlighting that special focus will be directed towards the long-range capabilities and missile programs.

This year, Ukraine is targeting the production of at least 30,000 long-range drones, alongside approximately 3,000 cruise missiles and drone missiles, he noted.

Shmyhal identified financial sustainability as another crucial government priority, stating that Ukraine will strive to secure financial assistance from its partners.

Specifically, Kyiv is anticipating $50 billion in support from the European Union (EU) and the Group of Seven (G7), backed by frozen Russian assets, in addition to further aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Energy remains a significant focus for the government, with the restoration and protection of energy infrastructure being key tasks, he added.

Moreover, Ukraine will persist in developing distributed generation and will work on enhancing the infrastructure required to import more electricity from Europe, according to the Prime Minister.

Other priorities outlined by Shmyhal include social support, veterans' policy, education and healthcare, economic recovery, business support, digital transformation, and continuing on Ukraine's European integration path, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Meanwhile, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine remains ongoing. The war began in February 2014 when covert Russian troops invaded the Ukrainian autonomous republic of Crimea. The conflict escalated in April 2014 with the seizure of territory in Ukraine’s Donbas region by Russian and local proxy forces. In the ensuing seven years, over 14,000 individuals lost their lives in the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

On February 24, 2022, Russia commenced a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Despite initial significant advances by Russian forces, Ukrainian defenders successfully resisted efforts to capture Kyiv and other major cities, subsequently launching counterattacks against Russian positions.
